FilmPride was proud to introduce the premiere of 3 documentaries, with discussions and Q&A sessions.

Peter Tatchell – An Activist’s Life – featuring Peter’s political activism and his contribution to worldwide gay rights movement. Directed by Bill Smith and Andrew Kay

The event started with two short films directed by Alf Le Flohic:

Brighton Pride 94: a home movie
A couple of queer mates take a VHS camera to Brighton Pride for a laugh and capture the 500-strong march on its way from Hove peace statue to The Level. See Brighton Pride as you may never have seen it before, in some of the earliest known footage.

Let’s Talk About Sydney
Narrated by Val Miles, we meet her uncle Sydney (born in 1921 in Brixton) and hear about his life in the army, his boyfriend Nick and the Campaign for Homosexual Equality in London. Val discovered Sydney’s photograph collection after he died in Sussex and this film is made up almost entirely of those pictures.

Lesbian Legends – introducing Siren, the band and political activists of the 70s and 80s, with Jude Winter and other members of the band. Produced and directed by Jude Winter and Bill Smith

Queer but Here – the Longhill School LGBTU+ Youth Group series of chat shows, featuring star political guests and introduced by the young people themselves. Produced and directed by Andrew Kay
